Like singing along to your favorite song? Then the Wharton County Junior College Band’s upcoming concert is right up your alley.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus, the Keep on Truckin’ to the 70s concert will include karaoke-style audience participation. As the band plays, the song lyrics will be projected overhead.

“We are going to encourage the audience to sing along,” said WCJC Band Director Joe Waldrop. “We hope everyone wants to join in. We want them to enjoy this and participate.”

Song selections are classic rock and pop tunes from the 70s that are instantly recognizable by anyone with even a passing interest in music. Included are favorites from the band Chicago, including “Make Me Smile,” “Saturday in the Park” and “25 or 6 to 4.” Other popular hits include Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” the Commodores’ “Brick House,” War’s “Low Rider” and the Bee Gee’s “Stayin’ Alive.” Additional selections will include hits from the Rolling Stones, the Eagles and Eric Clapton.

Waldrop said the band performed 60s-era songs last year and he thought it would make sense to move up a decade this time around.
Waldrop’s counting on a full house to make the Keep on Truckin’ to the 70s concert memorable.

“We’re hoping for a great crowd to come out and enjoy these iconic songs with us,” he said.

The WCJC Band will perform Keep on Truckin’ to the 70s at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The show is open to the public and free of admission.
