WHARTON, TEXAS – Long ball hitters and short game specialists alike are gearing up for Wharton County Junior College’s 5th Annual Golf Tournament.

Scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the El Campo Country Club, the four-player scramble tournament will raise funds for the WCJC President’s Scholarship Fund and the Presidential Scholars Program. The scholars program provides a select group of WCJC students with the opportunity to network with business leaders, volunteer at college events and attend a trip to Washington D.C.

The entry fee for the tournament is $300 per four-person team, or $75 per individual. That includes a golf cart, green fees and lunch. An awards ceremony will be held immediately afterwards, with awards presented to first, second and third place winners as well as longest driver and closest to the pin. The entry deadline has been extended until Friday, Sept. 29.

Sponsorships are still available for the tournament in several categories ranging from the $200 Friend of WCJC Sponsor to the $5,000 Platinum Sponsor. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event or in signing up to play can pick up a registration form at the Wharton and El Campo chambers of commerce or by contacting Cheryl Machicek at 979-532-6322 or via email at cherylm@wcjc.edu
