As an integral academic component of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, the Art Department's mission is to encourage personal and artistic growth in a student-centered learning environment. We are dedicated to creating a classroom experience strong in the production of art, the knowledge of historical context, the use of critical thinking, and the understanding of aesthetics.
The Visual Arts
There are three Art courses are offered as part of the core requirements at WCJC: ARTS 1303 and 1304 – Art History Surveys; and ARTS 1313 – Foundations of Art.
There are a limited number of Art scholarships available for students who have such interests, especially those who plan to transfer to four-year institutions as Art majors or minors. The WCJC catalog includes descriptions of all of these courses and a suggested course schedule. For more information, please contact Dianne Curtis, (979) 532-6312.
