Open to applicants from all backgrounds, our Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration, and Electrical Technology program provides immersive training in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVACR and electrical systems. Join us and learn the essential skills you need to succeed in these high-demand fields.

Program Details

Our program covers a range of competencies related to equipment installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair. Using computer simulation programs, you can improve your diagnostic skills and be better prepared for the job. Specific topics include gas brazing and soldering, electrical circuits, motor analysis, troubleshooting, conduit bending, wire size estimation, and circuit installation. Classes are held on our Wharton campus. You can pursue either or both certificates. Here are the two certificates you can earn:

 With the completion of both levels, you will acquire the knowledge and skills in the practical application of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, residential wiring, and commercial wiring. You can be eligible for the following job opportunities:

  • Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanic and Installer
  • Help Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Worker
  • Stationary Engineer and Boiler Operator
  • First-Line Supervisor of Mechanics, Installers, Repairers, and more!

To be an HVAC & Electrical Technology WCJC student, you must purchase instructional supplies and materials specific to the program.

Entry-Level Tuition Fees:

  • Tuition/Fees In-District: $2469

Apprentice Level Tuition Fees:

  • Tuition/Fees In-District: $3857

You are responsible for the following tools and equipment:

  • One pair 9" lineman's pliers 
  • One pair diagonal-cutting pliers
  • One pair wire strippers (18-10 AWG)
  • #2 Phillips 4" screwdriver
  • 6" flat blade screwdriver
  • 4" flat blade screwdriver
  • 6" flat blade narrow cabinet-tip
  • 1/4" nut driver
  • 5/16" nut driver
  • 10" adjustable crescent wrench
  • 8" adjustable crescent wrench
  • 10" slip joint pliers (channel locks)
  • 25' measuring tape
  • A clear pair of safety glasses

Uniforms

Program shirts are mandatory and must be worn  each day of class attendance.  Order forms will be issued on the first day of class.

Our program instructors have over 30 years of experience in the industry and possess the highest level of  licensing offered by the Texas Department of License and Regulation in their discipline. If you have specific questions, contact one of our program’s faculty members.

Robert Sanchez

A/C-Electrical Program Director

Mr. Sanchez received his HVACR certificate from Wharton County Junior College. He has been an HVACR professional for over 30 years and has been employed with WCJC since 2002. As Program Director, he coordinates and instructs courses for the A/C-Electrical program.

Philip Hamlin

Instructor of Electrical Technology

Mr. Hamlin holds a State of Texas Master Electrician License and has been employed within the electrical industry for over 25 years. He began instructing Electrical Technology at WCJC in August 2011.
