Requirements for the EMS Program:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have NEVER been, nor currently on, court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense (Class B Misdemeanor or above) within the last 10 years
  • Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense
  • Have NEVER been convicted of an offense (Class B Misdemeanor or above) within the last ten years
  • Have NEVER been convicted of a family violence offense
  • Have been honorably discharged from the military, if applicable
  • Possess a valid Texas driver’s license
  • Must apply and meet all admission requirements to Wharton County Junior College
  • Complete an application to the EMS Program to receive the required student registration packet.
  • Testing:  NOT required for EMT or AEMT.  TSI requirements must be met for entrance into the Paramedic level ONLY. 
  • CPR:  Must provide a copy of current CPR certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR.          NO OTHER CPR CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED
  • Must provide documentation showing proof of required immunizations or current titer levels.
    • Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination series or have started the Hepatitis B series
    • Diphtheria-tetanus & Pertussis (tDap) adult dose within the last ten years
    • MMR (measels, mumps, rubella)
    • Varicella (or history of chickenpox)
    • Flu vaccine (current season)
  • Must provide documentation of annual TB skin test (positive results will require follow up)
  • A current 10 panel drug screen.  The drug screen is valid for one year from the date of the test.  If the test is over one year, a new test will be required.  Random drug tests may also be required.  Failure to provide test results may lead to dismissal from the program.
  • An entrance physical is required for the program.  The form will be included in the packet.
  • A full background check is required.  The form will be included in the packet.
    • Clinical facilities/field agencies require a current criminal background check to be completed prior to allowing student participation in clinical training at their facilities.
