  1. Is financial aid available?
    Yes, to qualified students and veterans. Contact the Financial Aid Office at 1-800-561-9252 ext. 6345.

  2. When is the Basic Police Officer Course offered?
    WCJC offers a part-time Night Academy class at the Richmond campuses in the Fall; and a full-time Day Academy class at the Wharton campus in the Fall and Spring. Night classes are held 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some Saturday's from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for 32 weeks. Day classes are held 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and some Saturday's from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for 16 weeks.

  3. How much can I miss?  
    NONE. You are expected to attended all sessions of the academy, but you are allowed a certain number of absences and tardies. (See Academy Packet for details)

  4. Will this course certify me as a police officer in Texas?
    Yes, the BPOC is the first step. The second step is the Basic Peace Officer Licensing Exam. After passing the licensing exam, you are eligible to be employed as a Texas Peace Officer.

  5. Are there jobs?
    Yes, but it may take several months to go through the application process for police agencies. WCJC Police Academy does host recruiting sessions for numerous area law enforcement agencies.  Some agencies allow trainees to participate in the application process prior to graduation and potential employment is contingent upon passing the State Licensing examination.

  7. What kind of gun will I need?
    None. The Police Academy will supply all weapons and ammunition for the BPOC training.

  8. What additional supplies will I need for the class?
    Uniforms, Duty Gear, and note-taking material.  (See academy packet for details and list of equipment.)

  9. How can I pay?
    You can pay with cash, credit card (Visa or Mastercard), check, or money order. Contact the WCJC Business Office at 1-800-561-9252 ext. 6412 for more details

  10. When do I pay?
    Tuition/fees must be paid at time of registration.

  11. Do you have an age limit?
    You must be 21 years of age prior to graduation from the BPOC.

  12. Will we have any time off from school?
    Yes, we follow the college holiday schedule.
