The Grants & Resource Development unit, in cooperation with WCJC administration, seeks appropriate external funding opportunities for the College in support of its strategic plan for the College as a whole as well as for the benefit of individual departments and programs.

The unit provides the following services for the College:

  • Facilitates the grant development planning process and links grant proposals to the WCJC strategic plan and objectives of the academic unit applying for the grant
  • Identifies appropriate funding sources to meet strategic goals and disseminates this information to academic and administrative department staff
  • Provides feedback and advice during the development of major grant projects
  • Works with faculty and staff appointed or approved by the President
  • Provides technical assistance for the development of competitive grant proposals and develops supporting budgets and budget justifications
  • Edits and completes proposal preparation prior to submittal
  • Maintains liaison with federal, state, and local funding sources
  • Assists with negotiation of budgets for funded projects
  • Monitors principal investigators’ progress, evaluation, and compliance with requirements of a funding source concerning annual reports and other required reports
  • Monitors progress of funded projects
  • Provides workshops and technical assistance training for project directors and other community constituents
  • Assists with development of continuation proposals for multi-year projects
  • Maintains knowledge of grant opportunities and agency staff through membership in the Council for Resource Development, the Texas Hispanic-Serving Institutions Consortium, and local and regional professional organizations
  • Attends federal, regional, state, and local technical assistance workshops for selected funding sources as they are announced
  • Provides annual evaluation of the institutional grant development process
