FERPAFamily Educational Rights and Privacy Tutorial |
|
FERPA - the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) was enacted in 1974. An understanding of it and its legal implications is essential to maintaining privacy while providing service. It is critical that all members of the campus community who gather, store, access, or use student data understand the legal, ethical, and policy issues related to privacy and the handling of student information. The College's policy in response to FERPA is Reg No: 651, Student Records: Disclosure of Student Information. The policy can be viewed on the college internet site at http://www.wcjc.edu/about_n/regs/REG651.pdf. The summary information contained here is not a substitute for reviewing Wharton County Junior College's Student Records Policy in its entirety. |
