International Students Admissions
Wharton County Junior
College welcomes international students who can demonstrate fluency in
both written and spoken English in addition to satisfying regular
admission requirements. The applicant must submit a legible Wharton
County Junior College application no later than 60 days prior to the
start of the semester they wish to attend.
Checklist for International Applicants
1. Wharton County Junior college
application for admissions.
2. Notarized Affidavit of Support (Form I-134) no older than 6 months.
3. Submit a bank statement to show financial backing. Funds must be
available to the prospective student in a United States financial
institution. The applicant must have finances for expenses without
unauthorized employment. Financial aid is not available to foreign
students. The estimated amount of tuition and fees, housing and living
expenses is $15,000 per year.
4. OFFICIAL high school transcript (including a graduation date) or
OFFICIAL college transcript.
5. Evidence of English proficiency. English proficiency can be
demonstrated in one of the following ways.
a. Earn a TOEFL score of at least 525 paper based, 197 computer
based or 75 internet based. The scores must be sent directly to
WCJC (institution code 6939) from the TOEFL testing center.
b. Complete the highest level of an ESL program.
6. AFTER your I-20 is issued you will need to complete the I-901 form
and pay the $100.00 SEVIS filing fee.
Applicants within the United States must also submit the following:
7. A copy of the front page of your passport showing your name, date of
birth, country of birth, nationality and visa (if applicable).
8. A copy of the front and back of your I-94 card.
9. A copy of all I-20’s issued to you.
10. When transferring from another college ask your DSO to transfer your
I-20 electronically in SEVIS. You must be in good academic standing
before transferring from another college.
****ALL ITEMS MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE AN I-20 IS PRINTED.
You will need to declare a 2 year associate degree major before your
I-20 is printed. WCJC does not issue I-20’s for the one year certificate
programs. You must contact the DSO if you decide to change your major.
You must follow your degree plan so that you can earn an associate
degree by the date shown on your I-20.
The only campus housing is available at the main campus located in
Wharton Texas. Housing is limited so prospective students should contact
the Dean of Student Services (979) 532-6387 at least three weeks prior
to registration. You will need to complete a housing application and pay
the $100.00 deposit. At the Sugar Land and Fort Bend Technical Center
campuses you are responsible for your own housing.
Once you arrive in TEXAS you will need to take the college placement
exam THEA before you can register for your classes. All F-1 students are
required to register for 12 semester credit hours and register for
classes that require student presence on campus throughout the five-day
college week. Only ONE distance education class is allowed per semester.
You must maintain full-time status and cannot drop below 12 hours.
