THEA Test
Practice tests and
study tips for THEA, ASSET, ACT, GED and CLEP
also available at College
Entrance Exams
Beginning in the fall
semester of 1998, each undergraduate student, unless
otherwise exempt, who enters a public institution of higher
education must be tested for reading, writing and
mathematics skills prior to enrolling in any
collegiate-level coursework. The unit cost of each test
shall be borne by the student.
Students may demonstrate
these skills in one of two ways:
- Scores set by the Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board on the Texas Higher
Education Assessment (THEA) test.
- Scores set by the Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board on approved
alternative tests (ASSET, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER).
The THEA test is given six
Saturdays each year at 8 am. Students must pick up a
registration bulletin to register to take the exam or you
may register online at www.thea.nesinc.com. The THEA test is
given at colleges all over Texas. THEA dates remaining are
6/17/06 and 7/29/06. A new THEA schedule for the 2006-2007
school year will be available later during the summer.
Scores arrive in approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
If a student is in a
certificate program or is THEA exempt, he/she will be
advised according to ACT, SAT, or locally administered
tests.
A student may not enroll in
any upper-division course, the completion of which would
give the student 60 or more semester credit hours or the
equivalent, until the student's test results meet or exceed
the minimum standards for all sections of THEA. Other
assessment procedures may be used in exceptional cases to
allow a student to enroll in upper-division courses in cases
where student test results do not meet minimum standards
(Texas Education Code, Sec. 51.306).
