Testing Schedule Spring 2013

ATTENTION: THE TESTING CENTER ON THE WHARTON CAMPUS OF WCJC HAS RELOCATED TO THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE HODGES LIBRARY.

Test dates are subject to change. It’s recommended that testing candidates contact the testing center at the campus of their choice to confirm their test session.

The following tests are given by appointment only:

CLEP, Nelson Denny Reading Test, Pre-TASP Reading, Proctoring of independent exams from other Institutions of Higher Education or Certifying Agencies. Testing candidates should call for an appointment at the campus of their choice to schedule these tests.

TEST INFORMATION:

Matagorda County residents may pay at the WCJC Campus in Bay City, then WCJC personnel will email Wharton to confirm test date.

COMPASS

Test fee: $29.00. ***Students may take the Compass twice for entrance into the college.*** Examinees must have an application for admission submitted to the Registrar’s Office before test date. Examinees should pay at the business office and then take the receipt to the testing center to schedule an appointment. Testing staff will attempt to accommodate walk-in examinees, but those that have scheduled the appointment, paid in advance, and appear on time will be given first priority for testing.

STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO REVIEW PRIOR TO TAKING THE COMPASS EXAM.

ACT offers sample exam questions at http://www.act.org/compass/sample/. Dozens of other websites offer free COMPASS practice exams or study guides.

Local ACT

Test fee: $15.00.- 60-day waiting period for retesting purposes – Local ACT is used for WCJC Allied Health Programs – Students must have an application for admission turned in to the Registrar’s office before their test date. In addition, they must pay at the business office and then take the receipt to the testing center to schedule an appointment.

Scores are good for WCJC Campuses only and will not be released to other colleges. The Dental Hygiene program director prefers the National A.C.T. exam. Local A.C.T. exam students will get secondary consideration. To register for the National A.C.T. exam, please go to: www.actstudent.org.

TEAS V (Test of Essential Academic Skills V)

Students applying for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN) are required to take the TEAS V. The TEAS V is a multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in reading, mathematics, science, English and Language Usage. Each of the four sections are timed for a total of 209 minutes. Test results are available immediately upon completion of the assessment. Register for the TEAS V online at https://www.atitesting.com/Home.aspx

Reading: (40 items, 50 minutes) – section includes questions regarding paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/ conclusions.

Math: (45 items, 56 minutes)- section includes questions regarding whole numbers, metric conversions, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages and ratio/ proportion. Calculators are NOT ALLOWED.

Science: (30 items, 38 minutes)- section includes questions regarding science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principals and general science.

English and Language Usage: (55 items, 65 minutes)- section includes questions regarding punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words and spelling.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Credit for selected courses at Wharton County Junior College may be obtained by special examinations in accordance with the following policies:

Credit by examination may not be acquired in courses in which the student is or has been enrolled for credit past the 12 th class day of each semester or in an academic discipline in which the student has earned credit in a more advanced course.
No credit by examination is applicable until the student has earned an equivalent number of hours at Wharton County Junior College.
Not more than sixteen semester hours may be earned by examinations in transfer courses nor more than twenty-two semester hours in vocational-technical courses.

On test date, your current photo ID is required (not expired). You must have a WCJC Application for Admission on file with the Registrar’s Office in order to take any exam with us (with the exception of GED and Correspondence/Proctor Exams). You may not take anything into the testing room with you except for photo ID, approved calculator, pencils, erasers, and pens. Cell phones are not allowed in the testing room. If you are taking an exam and found to be in possession of a cell phone, you will be dismissed.
