Advisory against Misleading GED Claims
Please be advised that the GED®
Certificate
can be
neither
earned nor obtained via the
Internet or through correspondence programs.
The Tests of General Educational Development
(GED Tests)--developed by the General
Educational Development Testing Service of
the American Council on Education
(GED Testing
Service) require extensive
preparation and the demonstration of a high
level of high school knowledge and academic
skills. The GED Tests are administered in
Texas only at
Official GED
Testing Centers under the
direction of the Texas Education Agency
(TEA) GED Unit. Any other high school
equivalency certificates not issued by TEA
or
another
jurisdictional GED testing authority
may be of dubious value and may not
be accepted by employers, colleges and
universities, or the military. |
***Effective 9/1/09, GED Examinees must now prepare

also prepare this form at any Adult Basic Education
class for GED preparation.
Students may go to:

NEW GED PROCEDURES:
All
new GED testing students must be pre-tested through
an Adult Basic Education program before registering
for GED tests. Students will not be allowed to
register without permission and proper documentation
from one of the Adult Basic Education programs.
This does not include students that have already
tested with us or students requesting special
accommodations.
Please call 1-800-561-9252, ext. 6514 or ext. 6552
for more information.
You may print out the special accommodation form
that pertains to you by going to:
www.state.tx.us/ged/forms.html. Have
your physician, diagnostician, or proper advocate
fill these forms out for you and return to the
testing center (Wharton Campus). Upon notice from
Austin, we will contact you when we are notified
that your special accommodation request has been
granted, denied, or modified.
New
Procedure: Students must fill out a Demographics
form online by going to:
https://utdirect.utexas.edu/wcweb/ged/index.WBX.
This must be completed PRIOR to registration.
Students may do this at any location with
internet access. Also, A.B.E. instructors may
assist you in class, if necessary.
GED
registration is on Mondays at 9am and 1pm at
Wharton, Richmond and Sugarland campuses. If Monday
is a holiday, students may register on the next
available day. Those registering to test in Bay
City must pay and register in Wharton (first
time testers).
If
a Bay City examinee needs to retest, they may pay
the $13.00 retest fee at the Bay City Community
Education Center, call the Wharton testing center
and give testing personnel your receipt number, how
much you paid, and which test you need to
take/retake.
Wharton, Richmond, and Sugarland students may go to
the Business Office at the campus of their choice to
pay the $80.00 testing fee, then take the receipt,
government-issued photo ID, and permission form from
an instructor in an ABE program to the testing
center to register.
Additional paperwork from 16 and 17-year olds are
required. Seventeen year olds will need
parental/guardian consent and an official
withdrawal from the last high school
attended. Sixteen year olds will need an official
court order. Proper photo ID is required of 16 and
17 year olds as well as older examinees. ID or
Driver’s Licenses must be government issued.
Registration must be done a minimum of week prior to
testing. Examinees must cancel a minimum of 48
hours prior to testing for a refund. $9.00 will be
charged to the student for each exam they register
for and do not appear on test date.
Testing fees are as follows:
State fee: $15.00 (one time charge)
National fee: $10.000 (one time charge)
Scoring fee: $10.00 (one time charge)
Each individual subtest - $9.00
Retest - $13.00 each
