Student Organizations
Student Organizations at Wharton County Junior College vary from year to year in accordance with changes in student interests. Current organizations are described below.
African-American
Student Association
The African-American Student
Association is an organization open to all WCJC students.
Its purpose is to unify African-Americans, Anglo-Americans,
Mexican-Americans, and any other cultural blend that exists
with American society and fosters better understanding
between nationalities and races. The club also promotes
communication within the club, on the campus of Wharton
County Junior College and in the community. The
African-American Student Association also stresses the
development of leadership in public relations.
Art Guild
The Art Guild is an organization open to any Wharton County Junior College student interested in art. The purpose of the club is to promote art appreciation through art exhibits, art contests, and field trips to art galleries. The Art Guild often invites speakers to its meetings.
Associate Degree Nursing Club
The Associate Degree Nursing
Club was organized to promote traditional and professional
activities for ADN students and to stimulate interest in
community health affairs.
Baptist Student Union
The Baptist Student Union (BSU)
provides opportunity for Christian growth, evangelism,
discipleship, and fellowship. Sponsored by the Southern
Baptist Convention, the group is open to all interested
students.
Behavioral Science Club
The Behavioral Science Club
is an organization open to any WCJC student interested in
the behavioral and social sciences. The purpose of the club
is to promote mental and social awareness health. The club
also explores various career choices in the behavioral and
social sciences.
Biology Club
The Biology Club is composed
primarily of biology majors or those interested in the field
of biology. It provides intellectual stimulation for
students interested in the biological sciences. Several
field trips are among the annual events sponsored by the
club.
Catholic Student Association
The Catholic Student
Association sponsors programs for students in the hope that
it will supplement campus life by providing for some of the
religious, educational, and social needs of Catholics
without excluding students of other religions. Through its
interpersonal and intra-group activities, it strives to
contribute to the development of the mature person and a
healthy campus community.
Chamber Singers
The Chamber Singers is a
select ensemble of vocal members. The group specializes in
the more difficult choral literature of all periods, as well
as contemporary music including folk, jazz, and pop.
Students who have had previous vocal experience are invited
to audition.
Criminal Justice Student Association
The Criminal Justice Student
Association is designed to promote criminal justice as a
career among students; to further interest in criminal
justice and other related fields; and to help develop
leadership through social gatherings, programs, and social
services.
Dental Hygiene Club
The Dental Hygiene Club is
open to dental hygiene and other students interested in
promoting dental health.
Early Childhood Development Club
Early Childhood Development Club affiliates interested
students with Early Care and Education Network in Early Childhood Development and Interdisciplinary Studies (infants through Grade 8) in conferences and community projects sponsored by local, state, and national organizations.
Green Room Players
The Green Room Players is an
organization made up of students who are taking part in
dramatic activities and any other students who are
interested in dramatic production. All major dramatic
productions of the college as well as many other programs
are projects of this club.
Human Services Club –
promotes the general welfare of students majoring in
Human Services, to provide additional career supportive
opportunities, to better school and community relations
through interactive volunteerism with community
projects, and to stimulate student participation.

– Easter Basket/Bag Drive for Richmond State School – the
table for collection of items will be in the breezeway of
the Science Building on Main Campus from 8:00a-12:00noon and
March 3rd and 4th at the Tech Center
from 9:00-12:00n. The Human Services Club is collaborating
with PTK, SGA and the Psychology Club. See flyers around
campus for much needed items to fill 505 Easter Baskets!

Services Professionals Conference at St. Edward’s
University, Austin, Texas.

Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is designed to
acquaint students with present-day materials and techniques
for the modern dance orchestra, with special emphasis on
jazz. The group provides music for assembly programs and
various community affairs.
Med Tec Rec Club
The Med Rec Tec Club is an
organization of students interested in medical records.
Movimiento Hispano Club
The Movimiento Hispano Club
is an organization of Hispanic and other interested
students. It provides services to the college and the
community.
Phi Beta Lambda
The Phi Beta Lambda is open
to any student taking one or more business courses. The club
endeavors to bridge the gap between the classroom and the
business office. Prominent business men and women share
their experiences in the form of discussions with its
members. Field trips to companies in the Houston area have
become annual events of the club. Although the major
activities of the club are professional, it does provide for
valuable social experiences. The annual Phi Beta Lambda week
is an outstanding event of the college year.
Pioneer Aggie Rodeo Club
The Pioneer Aggie-Rodeo Club
is affiliated with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo
Association and is designed for students who are interested
in the sport of rodeo and other agriculture-related
activities. The club seeks to promote appreciation and
preservation of our Western heritage and to promote
intercollegiate rodeo as a standard, organized, collegiate
sport. In addition to sponsoring trail rides, barbecues, and
other activities, the club sponsors an NIRA-sanctioned rodeo
featuring teams from many colleges and universities of the
Southwest.
Pioneer Band
The Pioneer Band engages in the study of musical literature
from the Renaissance to the present day through the performance of transcriptions and original band works. The band performs
at various times throughout the semester. Participating in band is a great way to meet other students from around south Texas.
Psych Club

Spanish Club
The Spanish Club exists
primarily for those students who are currently enrolled or
have been enrolled in Spanish classes and for those students
who are truly interested in promoting Spanish as a foreign
language and related culture.
Speech Squad
The Speech Squad is an
organization of students who are interested in further
speech activities on the co-curricular level. The club
serves as the nucleus for the intercollegiate forensic teams
representing the college at festivals and contests. Public
speaking, debate, interpretation, discussion, and acting are
areas in which students may participate. Enrollment in
speech or drama courses is not necessary for eligibility.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association is composed of all
members of the student body. The officers of the Student Government Association are the president, vice-president, secretary\treasurer, parliamentarian, historian, and representatives from each of the
freshman and sophomore classes. There is a Student Government
Association on each of the 3 main campuses. Everyone is welcome.
Technical Society of Engineers
The Technical Society of
Engineers was created to act as a communication vehicle for
engineering students and to organize activities of interest
to engineering majors.
WCJC Choir
The WCJC Choir makes an
outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the area
through performances before conventions, school assemblies,
and service organizations. Officers are elected annually to
arrange many of the choir's activities. Each year the choir
presents a performance of a major choral work and tours area
high schools, other community and junior colleges, and
public gatherings throughout southeast Texas. Membership Is
open to all students through audition with the director.
The Young Republicans/College Republicans
The Young Republicans/College Republicans is an organization open to any student with an interest in political discourse and action from a Republican or conservative political perspective. A major objective of the organization is to encourage political
discussion and debate about current issues in government and
participate in campaigns toward conservative governance and
political leadership at the national, state and local level. Interested
students should call Ext. 6461 for information.
WCJC Collegiate FFA Chapter
The WCJC Collegiate FFA
Chapter was organized to promote agricultural leadership and
educational activities. Its members work with area high
schools in sponsoring Future Farmers of America leadership
contests, compete in intercollegiate livestock judging, and
participate in setting up exhibits at the county fair.
Membership is open to all interested students enrolled at
WCJC.
