Associate of Arts in Teaching

PLAN A

Leading to Initial Texas Teacher Certification
EC-4 Early Childhood Degree Specialization Only

This is a recommended course of study for students who plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree at any Texas public university offering baccalaureate programs leading to initial teacher certification. It is recommended that students contact the transferring university to determine which courses will be accepted.

The Early Childhood “degree specialization” refers only to the degree program offered at a university and not to a particular SBEC certification area.  All EC-4 Generalists (except EC-4 Generalist Bilingual and EC-4 Generalist ESL) no matter the university degree specialization take the same TExES examination for certification and are certified to teach in any EC-4 classroom.  Students taking the TECA courses will be required to complete criminal history checks. Students who fully complete this course of study will be eligible to apply for the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree at WCJC.

Completion of an AAT does not necessarily guarantee admission to a university teacher education program.  Any additional requirements with regard to grade point average and assessments must be satisfied as required by the receiving university.
