Wharton County Junior College offers quality Distance Learning technologies to support the teaching requirements of WCJC.

Wharton County Junior College is committed to promoting the quality of education through technology mediated resources to all attending students. Distance Learning provides two basic technologies to support instruction in today’s electronic environment. Internet or Online classes and Interactive Television classes.

Internet or Online classes are offered through a Learning Management System that provides access to classes through a server based college. The student is required to log into a Learning Management Platform where they will be presented with access to each class in which they have registered. The student is provided access to other college services such as library services, the bookstore, and more. Students have the ability to review course material presented by the instructor, submit assignments as attachments, take assessments, and correspond with the instructor and other class mates.

Interactive Television classes are utilized to provide instruction to remote locations from an ITV classroom. In many cases, these could be college classes that are taught from one campus to other campuses within our geographical area. This reduces the amount of travel required by the student and faculty; and allows WCJC to maximize the benefits of quality instructors to various locations. Another use of ITV is to provide school districts with college courses to offer to their eligible student body. This offering provides the student with a dual credit benefit in that the student takes the college course and gains college credits and high school credit for the same course at the same time.

As various technologies are introduced that will support the educational aspects of Wharton County Junior College and its students, the WCJC Distance Learning Department will strive to provide these technologies to enhance the overall learning standards.
