  RNSG 1161.  Clinical-Nursing (RN training).                                 1:0:3

A method of instruction providing detailed education, training and work-based experience and direct patient/client care, at a clinical site. The clinical experience is designed to allow the learner to integrate the skills and knowledge being developed in RNSG 1327. Prerequisite: Admission to the LVN-ADN Transition Program. Co requisite: RNSG 1327 [Offered summer I semester.]

  RNSG 1205.  Nursing Skills I.                                                       2:1:4

Study of the concepts and principles essential for demonstrating competence in the performance of nursing procedures.  Topics include knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Co requisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1513 and RNSG 1301. [Offered fall semester.]

  RNSG 1260.  Clinical-Nursing (RN training).                                 2:0:6

  RNSG 1251. Care of the Childbearing Family.                             2:2:0

Study of concepts related to the provision of nursing care for childbearing families.  Topics may include selected complications.  Topics include knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, RNSG 1301, RNSG 1441, RNSG 1461, RNSG 2213 and RNSG 2161 with a grade of C or better. Co requisite: RNSG 2262 [Offered fall semester.]

  RNSG 1301.  Pharmacology.                                                        3:3:0

Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects, and nursing implications of each drug classification. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in safe administration of medications within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program or director’s approval. Co requisites:  RNSG 1260, RNSG 1513, and RNSG 1205. [Offered fall semester.]

  RNSG 1327.  Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing.  3:2:1

Topics include health promotion, expanded assessment, analysis of data, nursing process, pharmacology, multidisciplinary teamwork, communication, and applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework throughout the lifespan. Prerequisite: Admission to LVN-ADN Transition Program. Co requisite: RNSG 1161 [Offered summer I semester.]

  RNSG 1343.  Complex Concepts of Adult Health.                         3:3:0

Integration of previous knowledge and skills related to common adult health needs into the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession in the care of adult clients/families in structured health care settings with complex medical-surgical health care needs associated with each body system. Emphasis on knowledge, judgments, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, RNSG 1301, RNSG 1441, RNSG 1461, RNSG 2213, RNSG 2161, RNSG 1251, RNSG 2262, RNSG 2201 and RNSG 2263 with a grade of “C” or better. Co requisites: RNSG 2231 and RNSG 2463. [Offered spring semester.]

  RNSG 1441.  Common Concepts of Adult Health.                         4:4:0

Study of the general principles of caring for selected adult clients and families in structured settings with common medical-surgical health care needs related to each body system. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, and RNSG 1301 with a grade of “C” or better. Co requisite: RNSG 1461 [Offered spring semester.]

  RNSG 1461.  Clinical-Nursing (RN training).                                  4:0:12

A method of instruction providing detailed education, training, and work-based experience and direct patient/client care at a clinical site.  The clinical experience is designed to allow the learner to integrate the skills and knowledge being developed in RNSG 1441. Prerequisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, and RNSG 1301 with a grade of “C” or better. Co requisite: RNSG 1441 [Offered spring semester.]

  RNSG 1513. Foundations for Nursing Practice.                             5:4:2

Introduction to the role of the professional nurse as provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession.  Topics include but are not limited to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage, and basic psychomotor skills. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Co requisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205 and RNSG 1301. [Offered fall semester.]

  RNSG 2161. Clinical-Nursing (RN training).                                   1:0:3

A method of instruction providing detailed education, training, and work-based experience and direct patient/client care at a clinical site. The clinical experience is designed to allow the learner to integrate the skills and knowledge being developed in RNSG 2213. Prerequisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, RNSG 1301, RNSG 1441, RNSG 1461, RNSG 2213 and RNSG 2161 with a grade of “C” or better. Corequisite: RNSG 2213 [Offered Summer II semester.]

  RNSG 2201.  Care of Children and Families.                                2:2:0

Study of concepts related to the provision of nursing care for children and their families, emphasizing judgment, and values within a legal/ethical framework. Prerequisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, RNSG 1301, RNSG 1441, RNSG 1461, RNSG 2213 and RNSG 2162, RNSG 1251 and RNSG 2262 with a grade of “C” or better.   RNSG 2207.  Transition to Nursing Practice.                                 2:2:0

Introduction to selected concepts related to the role of the associate degree nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of the profession.  Review of trends and issues impacting nursing and health care today and in the future. Topics include knowledge, judgment, skill, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework.   RNSG 2213.  Mental Health Nursing.                                             2:2:0

Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology, and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of clients and their families. Prerequisites: RNSG 1260, RNSG 1205, RNSG 1513, RNSG 1301, RNSG 1441, and RNSG1461 with a grade of “C” or better. Co requisite: 2161 [Offered Summer II semester.]

Application of advanced concepts and skills for the development of the professional nurse’s roles in complex nursing situations with adult clients/families with complex health needs involving multiple body systems in intermediate and critical care settings.
