Study of the basic structure of medical words including prefixes, suffixes, roots, combining forms, plurals, pronunciation, spelling, and the definitions of medical terms. Introduction to surgical procedures and related pathologies. Emphasis on surgical procedures related to the general, obstetrics/gynecology, genitourinary, otorhinolarynology, and orthopedic surgical specialties incorporating instruments, equipment, and supplies required for perioperative patient care. The Capstone Course SRGT 2461 is the culminating evaluative course that assesses the outcome of the major. Students must complete this course with a grade of C or better.
