This course provides information on completion of medical claims forms and also provides skills and knowledge in the medical records field for ICD-9 and CPT coding of insurance forms for reimbursement of medical services. The student will identify different nomenclatures and classifications systems, and assign codes using appropriate rules, principles, guidelines, and conventions.

Prerequisites:
High School Diploma or GED
Pre-TASP READING test results (or equivalent, i.e. TASP, ACT, etc)– Pre-TASP score of 14 or above.

Completion of the Medical Terminology Course – SGRT 1001 or equivalent course (Prior approval is required of any course other than SGRT 1001; SGRT 1001 is 48 contact hours when comparing other medical terminology course work)
