This course provides the fundamentals of medical transcription with hands-on experience in transcribing actual physician dictation including basic reports such as history and physicals, discharge summaries, consultations, operative reports, and other medical reports. Course is designed to develop speed and accuracy.
Textbook required.

Prerequisites:
High School Diploma or GED - Need official copy of high school transcript showing graduation date, college transcript or copy of GED certificate upon registering for course.
Pre-TASP READING test results – Must have a score of 14 or above.
To schedule your Pre-TASP test, call 1-800-561-9252 extension 8434 in Sugar Land;, ext. 6386 or 6457 in Wharton OR ext. 1532 at the Fort Bend Tech Center in Richmond. There is no charge for the exam. Exam can only be taken once a semester. Review of a reading test study guide may be helpful before taking exam.
Completion or concurrent enrollment in the
Medical Terminology Course – SGRT 1001 or equivalent course (Prior approval is required of any course other than SGRT 1001; SGRT 1001 is 48 contact hours when comparing other medical terminology course work)
Word processing skills
Keyboarding skills of >30 words/minute (Test may be administered to determine eligibility at beginning of class).
