Sharon Prince has taught for over twenty years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Radford University in Radford, Virginia in 1987. After she graduated, she decided to take a year away from academic pursuits and lived in a Franciscan community dedicated to serving the poor in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. At the end of that year, Prince returned to higher education as a teaching fellow at Radford University where she began her master’s degree in English. She finished her master’s in 1990. Since her teaching fellowship at Radford University, Prince has taught at a variety of institutions, ranging from West Virginia University to Wharton County Junior College. She teaches both face-to-face and online classes. She has served as the English department head since 2004. She enjoys working with students and running the department; she looks forward to her days at work. She hopes that her children and her students will find a career that is as satisfying for them as her career is for her.

Marsha Anderson has been a full-time English Instructor at Wharton Jr. College for five years. She holds a B.S. in Professional Writing and a M.A. in Literature from University of Houston.  She has been teaching for over 18 years. Some of Anderson's writing projects include her first book How to Have a Good Day Everyday, her women's magazine that she publishes entitled, Have a Good Day Magazine and a play called Drama Queens. Ms. Anderson is also a freelance photographer and she enjoys spending time at coffee houses reading.

Pamela Armentrout began teaching full-time at Wharton County Junior College in 1993. Before moving to Wharton, she taught at McCullough High School, Burbank Middle School, and Texas A & M University. Her composition courses utilize computer-aided instruction and educational technology.

Teresa Meek-Berrios has an AA in Education from San Antonio College, a BA in Spanish and a MA in Spanish Linguistics from the University of San Antonio. She worked with the International Student program sponsored by The Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., teaching ESL classes to students from Central and South America, and Mexico. She joined WCJC as a full time Spanish Instructor in 2002 and currently teaches Spanish 1411 and 1412 at three of our campuses: Wharton, Sugar Land and FBTC.

Rick Bush has taught English and German at the high school and college levels.  He has published one of his poems and a journal article on teaching.  Prior to coming to WCJC, Bush worked as a technical writer and a translator of documents written in German.  He is currently a researcher for folk and music historian Robert "Mack" McCormick's forthcoming book An Almost Savage Joy.

Ava King Humme received her B.A. in Journalism from Texas A & M University and M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with additional course work in English Literature from the University of Houston-Victoria. Since 1991 she has taught for WCJC in various departments, including Vocational Education, Adult Basic Education, Developmental Studies, and English and Humanities. Ms. Humme has taught at the University of Houston-Victoria and for Region IV of the Texas Education Agency and volunteered as a Special Education reading tutor for middle school students in Fort Bend ISD. She also has a strong professional background as a writer and editor for several major energy companies.

Suzan King received her BA in Humanities and her MA in English from Oklahoma State University. She taught for many years at Tulsa Community College in Tulsa, OK. Now she divides her time between her log cabin in the Pocono Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania and her apartment in Manhattan. Besides teaching Freshman Composition I and II online for WCJC, she travels across America performing her 11 historical characters including Eleanor Roosevelt, Abigail Adams, Georgia O'Keeffe and Dorothy Parker.

Angela Kocurek has taught for two years as Instructor of English at WCJC. She teaches Composition and Literature courses at the main campus.

Angela Kocurek is completing her Ph.D. in English and American Literature, with a specialization in British Literature from 1798 to 1832, from the University of Houston. Trained in nineteenth-century poetry and fiction, she also writes on philosophies of beauty and art, ethical criticism, and popular culture.

Karen Lescure graduated with her Master’s degree in English in 1997 and teaches English for Wharton County Junior College at the Sugar Land campus.  She has been full-time faculty member since the fall of 2004.  In addition to teaching English, Karen also enjoys writing in her spare time and has published a narrative in the Houston Chronicle's Texas Magazine.

Jennifer Mooney graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2003 with an M.A. in English literature, with an emphasis in Literary Criticism and British Literature. She obtained her B.A. from Robert Morris University in 2002, where she later returned to begin her teaching career in 2004. In subsequent years, she has also taught at Point Park University (Pittsburgh, PA) and Jefferson County Community College (Steubenville, OH). She joined WCJC’s faculty full time in the Fall of 2008.

In 1991, Dr. Nealy graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a B.A. in English.  In the same year, she began working toward her M.A. in English at Texas A&M University.  Upon completion of her M.A., she began work on her Ph.D. in education at Texas A&M.  In August 1994, she became a full-time instructor in the Department of English at Prairie View A&M University.  In the summer of 2000, Dr. Nealy finished the Prentice Hall TASP Writing Guide, which she co-authored with Karen Hackley, a Houston Community College instructor.  Dr. Nealy completed her service at Prairie View A&M University in 2001 and began teaching English full-time at Wharton County Junior College in 2002.

Dr. Joyce O'Shea received her BA cum laude at Catawba College in North Carolina, majoring in English.  She then attended Appalachian State University, where she obtained a master's degree in American literature.  Her master's thesis was titled "Wives Vs. Career Women in Eleven Novels of Sinclair Lewis." Later she received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University in Ohio, where the focus of her dissertation research was students' evaluations of college teaching at the two-year college.  Her teaching career over the years ranged from Appalachian State University in North Carolina to Parsons College in Iowa and to Greenville Technical College in South Carolina, where she was Chairperson of the English Department.  She also taught at the University of Akron and became Head of the English Department at Stark State College of Technology in Ohio before coming to Wharton County Junior College in January of 1999 as a part-time instructor.  The following year she was hired full-time in the English Department.  Since joining the faculty at WCJC, Dr. O'Shea has served as department head and as an instructor of many of the courses offered in the English curriculum.  Points of interest in her on-going research in effective teaching include successful use of discussion in the classroom and the processes used by professional writers in composing both fiction and non-fiction.

Hello!  My name is Scott Stripling.  After teaching four years as an Adjunct Instructor at WCJC, I transitioned to full-time status in August of 2009. In the past, I taught at UT Brownsville, International Bible College, Belhaven College, and University of Phoenix.  I attended five different universities, and my degrees include: BS (English/Physical Education), MA (English), MA (Biblical Literature), and DMin (Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology).  I am currently writing the dissertation for my PhD in Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology on the topic of “What happened to the lost City of Livias?”.   love teaching literature and the writing process, and my passion is Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology (focused on Israel and Jordan).  At WCJC, I teach all of the writing and literature courses as well as Humanities.

Mr. Autry has been teaching for 36 years, including stints at the University of New Orleans, Lamar University in Beaumont, and ten years now at WCJC. He received his B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina, and his master’s degree from East Carolina University. In 2009 Mr. Autry received a grant for study at Oxford University in the English Language Seminar.

Richard Cutrer earned his MA in English from the University of Houston and is nearing completion of an MFA degree in Creative Writing from Goddard College in Vermont. He has taught composition and literature at Wharton County Junior College for over a decade, as well as at Houston Community College and University of Houston-Downtown. Having published several freelance articles in Texas magazines, he has en extensive background in corporate communications. He is also a health care and nonprofit copywriter.

Martha Taylor Harrison is a graduate of Wharton County Junior College and Texas A & M University-Kingsville, with a B. A. in English/Speech and an M.A. in English/Education. Retired from forty years of public school instruction at Port Arthur ISD and Alief ISD, Ms. Harrison has taught the English Composition courses at WCJC since 2007.

Patrick LeClair received his B.S. from the University of Houston. Patrick also received the M.L.A, the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Liberal Arts from Houston Baptist University. Patrick LeClair teaches Humanities at WCJC and English and AP Art History full-time in Fort Bend ISD. He began teaching at Wharton in 2010.

Santiago Lopez earned his M.A. in English from New Mexico State University and has Bachelor Degrees in English and Psychology from the University of Houston. He has taught creative writing through Writers In The Schools in Las Cruces, NM and Houston. Lopez has poems in the premiere two issues of the New Mexico Poetry Review, and Palabra: A Magazine of Chicano and Latino Literary Art. His scholarly interests overlap his personal pursuits of poetry, music, and cinema.

David V. Mason received his B. A. in philosophy and literature in 1976 from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. His Master's degree was earned at Columbia University/Union Theo. Seminary in New York City in 1979. His doctoral degree was conferred in San Francisco, SFTS, in 1985. In the summer of 2010 he was a guest lecturer at Jesus College, Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. He is also the author of four novels for young adults and often speaks at local schools in the Houston area. Melissa Morse earned her A.A. degree from WCJC in 1989 and graduated from Texas State University with a B.A. in English and Secondary Education in 1991. She taught high school English for South San Antonio ISD and Needville ISD and later took time off to stay home with her children. She received her M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on English and Education from the University of Houston Victoria in 2006 and returned to teaching English for Lamar Consolidated ISD at Foster High School. She has been teaching Dual Credit English for WCJC since 2007 and enjoys preparing high school seniors for college.

Jimidene Murphey fell in love with teaching as a graduate assistant and has been teaching for over 20 years. She earned her B.B.A and M.B.A. in marketing and management from Tarleton State University. Wanting a second teaching field, she completed her M.A. in composition/rhetoric and technical writing at Texas Tech University. She has taught at South Plains College, Clarendon College, Victoria College, and WCJC. To keep abreast of current pedagogy, she has prepared over 30 ancillaries for English and business textbooks and was a part of a grant to bring online student services to rural colleges. She has been teaching online classes for 12 years and dual credit for six.

Angelique Sakry received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and her Master of Arts degree from the University of Houston – Victoria. Prior to her coming to WCJC in 2009 to teach Composition classes, Ms. Sakry taught Business English at Texas School of Business, and received an Honorable mention award for her poetry contribution to Atlantic Monthly Magazine.

David Glen Smith earned his B.A. in Graphic Design from Drake University, his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Vermont College-Norwich University, and his M.A. in English Literature from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His writings and paintings have been published in various literary journals. Prior to teaching, he held diverse jobs in the publishing industry, developing both print and on-line publications as editor, designer, and illustrator. During the last six years he has taught both design related courses and English composition.

Jim Stanley teaches English and Humanities as an adjunct instructor. He was born and raised in California, but he has spent the last forty years in Texas. After a tour of duty in the U.S. Army, including a year in Viet Nam with the 101st Infantry Division, he enrolled at Texas A & I University (now Texas A & M Kingsville) where he received his B.A. in English and Drama, summa cum laude, in 1973. He returned to A & I for an M.A. in English in 1990. He has taught high school English and Theatre Arts since 1990. A lifelong musician, Jim sings and plays lead guitar with a Classic Rock/Country cover band and occasionally performs as a solo acoustic artist. He is a member of Mensa, where he met his wife Pam.

Janice Whitehead has taught English at the junior high, high school and college levels. She has written several articles for Texas Fisherman and Bassin' magazines and worked extensively on the website and newsletter for the Texas Joint Hurricane Task Force. Her degrees include an AA in Computer Science from Blinn College, a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston Downtown (UHD), and a MS in Professional Writing and Technical Communications also from UHD.
