The Visual Arts
There are three Art
courses that are offered as part of the Core Requirements at WCJC: ARTS 1303
and 1304 – Art History Surveys; and ARTS 1313 – Foundations of Art. These
courses are offered on all of our campuses every semester, and often during
the Summer sessions as well. The Foundations course studies both the theory
and the practice of two- and three-dimensional organization as related to
design principles.
On our main campus we also
offer a full array of Art courses designed for our Art majors and others who
are looking for more in-depth studies in such areas as Painting, Design,
Drawing, Ceramics, and Sculpture. There are a limited number of Art
scholarships available for students who have such interests, especially
those who plan to transfer to four-year institutions as Art majors or
minors. The WCJC catalog includes descriptions of all of these courses and a
suggested course schedule. For more information, please contact the Division
of Communications & Fine Arts office, (979) 532-6300.
In the Fine Arts Building
on our main campus in Wharton, we offer fine facilities and instruction for
Art majors or those with additional interests in this area. We have three
studios, a large classroom with drawing and painting capabilities, an Art
Gallery to display students’ work, and programs where that work can be shown
to the larger community. Mr. Coleman, our Art instructor on the main campus,
is a gifted and talented artist in his own right who regularly advises Art
students for academic and career goals.
The Art area is a part of
our Visual & Performing Arts Department.
