  SPCH 1315.  Fundamentals of Speech. (Core 011)                     3:3:0

Designed to teach students the components of the human communication process. Students are taught to communicate clearly and effectively through the medium of speech. Special emphasis is on the organization, content and delivery of extemporaneous speeches. Prerequisite: THEA reading requirement met or concurrent enrollment in READ 0307. [Offered fall, spring and summer semesters.]

  SPCH 1318.  Interpersonal Communication.                               3:3:0

Designed to improve students' skills of communication for everyday situations. Topics include self‑awareness, listening, nonverbal communication, semantics, group process, and resolution of conflict.  Students learn to communicate in a manner that leads to healthy personal adjustment and personal relationships; they acquire skills important in obtaining employment and advancing in a career; they make public presentations; they gain understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Prerequisite: THEA reading requirement met or concurrent enrollment in READ 0307. [Offered fall and spring semesters.]

  SPCH 1321.  Business and Professional Speaking                      3:3:0

This course prepares students to communicate effectively in business and/or professional settings by providing a mixture of lectures and performance-based activities that approximate the dynamics of a contemporary business. Prerequisite: THEA reading requirement met or concurrent enrollment in READ 0307.

  SPCH 1342 (or DRAM 2336).  Voice and Articulation.                  3:3:0

Study of and practice in the use of voice.  Includes the component parts of the voice mechanism and an introduction to the International Phonetic Alphabet.  The course may be counted as Speech or Drama but not both. Prerequisite:  THEA reading and writing requirements met. [Offered spring semester.]

  SPCH 2341.  Oral Interpretation.                                                 3:3:0

Helps students read aloud effectively from the printed page.  Analysis of the literature being read aids students in discovering the logical and emotional impact the author intended so that the same impact may be conveyed by a speaker to an audience through vocal characterization and movement.  Prerequisite: THEA reading requirement met or concurrent enrollment in READ 0307.
