  TECA 1303.  Family, School, and the Community.                      3:3:2

A study of the child, family, community, and schools, including parent education and involvement, family and community lifestyles, child abuse, and current family life issues. This course requires students to participate in field experiences with children from infancy through grade 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. Prerequisite:  THEA Reading and Writing recommended.

  TECA 1311.  Educating Young Children.                                        3:3:2

An introduction to the education of the young child, including developmentally appropriate practices and programs, theoretical and historical perspectives, ethical and professional responsibilities, and current issues. This course requires students to participate in field experiences with children from infancy through grade 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations.  Prerequisite:   THEA Reading and Writing recommended.

  CDEC 1313.  Curriculum Resources for Early Childhood Program.   3:3:0

 A study of the fundamentals of curriculum design and implementation in developmentally appropriate programs for children.   Prerequisite:  None.

  TECA 1318.  Health, Safety, and Nutrition for the Young Child.       3:3:2

A study of the factors that impact the well-being of the young child including healthy behavior, food, nutrition, fitness, and safety practices. Focus on local and national standards and legal implications of relevant policies and regulations. This course requires students to participate in field experiences with children from infancy through grade 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations.  THEA Reading and Writing recommended.

  CDEC 1419.  Child Guidance.                                                            4:3:3

An exploration of guidance strategies for promoting prosocial behaviors with individual and groups of children.  Emphasis on positive guidance principles and techniques, family involvement and cultural influences.  Practical application through direct participation with children.  Prerequisite: None.

  CDEC 1421.  The Infant and Toddler.                                                  4:3:3

A study of appropriate infant and toddler (birth to 3 years) programs, including an overview of development, quality care giving routines, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques. Prerequisite:  None.

  TECA 1354.  Child Growth and Development.                                     3:3:0

A study of  the principles of  child growth and development from conception through adolescence. Focus on physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains of development. Prerequisite:   THEA Reading and Writing recommended.

  CDEC 1356.  Emergent Literacy for Early Childhood.                          3:3:0

An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching young children language and literacy through a play-based, integrated curriculum. Prerequisite:  CDEC 1313

  CDEC 2307.  Math and Science for Early Childhood                           3:3:0

An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching children math and science concepts and process skills through discovery and play. Prerequisite:  None.

  CDEC 1458.  Creative Arts for Early Childhood.                                   4:3:3

An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching children music, movement, visual arts, and dramatic play through process-oriented experiences to support divergent thinking. Prerequisite:  TECA 1311.

  CDEC 1359.  Children with Special Needs.                                          3:3:0

A survey of information regarding children with special needs including possible causes and characteristics of exceptionalities, intervention strategies, available resources, referral processes, the advocacy role, and legislative issues. Prerequisite:  None.

  CDEC 2341.  The School Age Child.                                                     3:3:0

A study of appropriate programs for the school age child (5-13 years), including an overview of development, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques. Prerequisite:  TECA 1311.

  CDEC 2386.  Internship-Child Care and Guidance Workers and Managers.                                                                                                                 3:0:9

A work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts.  A learning plan is developed by the college and the employer.  Prerequisite:  Approval of program coordinator. (Capstone Course.)

  CDEC 2426.  Administration of Programs for Children I.                       4:3:3

A practical application of management procedures for early child care education programs, including a study of planning operating, supervising, and evaluating programs. Topics on philosophy, types of programs, policies, fiscal management, regulations, staffing, evaluation, and communication. Prerequisite: Approval of program coordinator.

  CDEC 2428.  Administration of Programs for Children II.                      4:3:4

An in-depth study of the skills and techniques in managing early care and education programs, including legal and ethical issues, personnel management, team building, leadership, conflict resolution, stress management advocacy, professionalism, fiscal analysis and planning parent education/partnerships, and technical applications in programs.  Prerequisite:  Approval of program coordinator. and CDEC 2426. (Capstone Course)
