  FIRT 1315. Hazardous Materials.                                                        3:3:0

Study of the chemical characteristics and behavior of various materials. Topics include storage, transportation, handling hazardous emergency situations, and the most effective methods of hazard mitigation. Prerequisite:  None. [Offered fall semester.]

   OSHT 1309.  Physical Hazards Controls.                                           3:3:0

A study of the common physical hazards in industry and methods of workplace design and redesign to control  hazards. Emphasis on the regulation codes and standards associated with the control of physical hazards. Prerequisite: PTAC 1308 or permission of instructor. [Offered spring semester.]

   PTAC 1302.  Intro to Process Technology.                                        3:3:0

Introduction to chemical and refinery plant operations. Topics include process technician duties, responsibilities and expectations; plant organizations; plant process and utility systems; and the physical and mental requirements of the process technician. Prerequisite: None. [Offered fall, spring and summer semesters.]

   PTAC 1308.  Safety, Health & Environment.                                     3:3:0

Development of knowledge and skills to reinforce the attitudes and behaviors required for safe and environmentally sound work habits. Emphasis on safety, health, and environmental issues in the performance of all job tasks and regulatory compliance issues.  Prerequisite:  None. [Offered fall, spring and summer semesters.]

   PTAC 1452.  Instrumentation I.                                                         4:4:1

Study of the instruments and instrument systems used in the chemical processing industry including terminology, primary variables, symbology, control loops, and basic troubleshooting. Prerequisite:  PTAC 1302. [Offered spring semester.]

   PTAC 2314.  Quality.                                                                        3:3:0

Study of the background and application of quality concepts.  Topics include team skills, quality tools, and economics, and continuous improvement. Prerequisite: PTAC 1302. [Offered spring semester.]

   PTAC 2410. Process Technology I - Equipment.                              4:3:2

Instruction in the use of common process equipment. Students will learn to use appropriate terminology to describe components of process equipment; describe basic functions of process equipment; and relate scientific principles associated with process equipment.  Prerequisite: PTAC 1302. [Offered spring semester.]

   PTAC 2420.  Process Technology II - Systems.                                4:3:2

Study of the interrelation of process equipment and process systems including related scientific principles.  Prerequisites:  PTAC 1302, PTAC 2410 and CHEM 1405.  [Offered fall semester.]

   PTAC 2436.  Instrumentation II.                                                       4:3:2

Continued study of coverage of the varied instruments and instrument systems used in the chemical processing industry including terminology, primary variables symbology, control loops, and basic troubleshooting.  Prerequisite: PTAC 1452. [Offered fall semester.]

   PTAC 2438.  Process Technology III - Operations.  (Capstone Course)  4:3:2

This course combines systems into operational process with emphasis on operations under various conditions. Topics include typical duties of an operator. Prerequisites:  OSHT 1309  and  PTAC 2420. [Offered spring semester.]

   PTAC 2446  Process Troubleshooting.  (Capstone Course)              4:3:2

Instruction in the different types of troubleshooting techniques, procedures, and methods used to solve process problems.  Topics include application of data collection and analysis, cause-effect relationships, and reasoning.   Prerequisites: PTAC 2436 and PTAC 2438. [Offered spring semester.]
