GOVT 2301. American, National and State Government:   Constitutions, Federalism and Participation. (Core 070)         3:3:0

  Survey of the American national and state systems of government. Topics covered in this course include: political ideology; the origins and development of the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Texas; the principles of federalism and federal-state-local governmental relations; the instruments and methods of political participation; and the various forms of local government. Meets the legislative requirements for a course on the Constitutions of the United States and Texas for teacher certification. Prerequisite: THEA reading and writing requirements met. [Primary semester is fall, but offered all semesters. Also offered as an Internet course.]

GOVT 2302. American National and State Government:    Institutions, Rights and    Public Policies (Core 070)                                            3:3:0

  Survey of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the national government and of the State of Texas. The course also encompasses a study of civil rights and civil liberties and public policy. Prerequisite: THEA reading and writing requirements met. GOVT 2301 recommended. [Primary semester is spring, but offered all semesters. Also offered as an Internet course.]
