Education: B.S., M.A. Sam Houston State University; ABD, Texas A&M University; Ph.D. Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica Academic Interests: Classical sociological theory, contemporary social thought, social research methods, sociology of religion, Latin American and African sociopolitical movements, and the sociology of science and technology. A Columbus, Texas native and resident, Dr. Loessin came to WCJC in 1989 from The University of Louisiana at Monroe where he served as a Lecturer of Sociology for three years. Previously, he was an Assistant Instructor of Sociology at Sam Houston State University for two years and for Lee College at the Texas Department of Corrections. Dr. Loessin has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa. He currently serves as the President of the Association for the Scientific Study of Religion—Southwest (ASSR-SW) and is the Editor of the annual Proceedings of the ASSR-SW.Dr. Loessin teaches SOCI 1301: Introduction to Sociology, SOCI 1306: Social Problems, SOCI 2319: Ethnicity and Identity; SOCI 2326/PSYC 2319: Social Psychology, ANTH 2346/HUMA 2323: General Anthropology/World Cultures, as well as ENGL 1301: Composition I, ENGL 1302: Composition II, ENGL 2322: British Literature I, ENGL 2323: British Literature II, ENGL 2333: World Literature II, and HUMA 1301: Introduction to Humanities. |

Education: B.A., M.A. Prairie View A&M University; J.D. Texas Southern University Academic Interests: Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Women’s Issues, Social and Political Movements Dr. Sherrod has been on the Sociology teaching faculty at Wharton County Junior College for over fifteen years. Having served as a former Department Head for Social and Behavioral Sciences and two terms as Faculty Council Chair, she has a varied background in higher education.Previously, Dr. Sherrod worked at Prairie View A&M University where she served as Associate Director of Career Planning and Placement and later, as Associate Director of Student Activities. She is a member of the National Social Science Association, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and volunteers with a number of social service activities in the community. She is a native of Tyler, Texas.Dr. Sherrod teaches SOCI 1301: Introduction to Sociology, SOCI 1306: Social Problems, and SOCI 2319: Ethnicity and Identity. |
