Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technicians help design, test, and manufacture electrical and electronic equipment. Because the electronics field is very broad, a wide variety of jobs are available. Today all major industries have electronics technicians working for them. An electronics technician may work in areas such as radio, television, robotics, power generation, utilities, the oil and gas industry, medical measurement and control, computers, communications, automotive, and industrial measurement and control. Each technician concentrates on the specific needs of his or her industry, and some technicians may not have the job title of “Electronics Technician,” but all of them are using the electronics training they received at WCJC.
For over 40 years, the Electronics Department at WCJC has been graduating well-trained electronics technicians who get and keep good jobs. Our graduates have established a remarkable record over that time. On our last survey, we found that over 90% of our graduates were employed as electronics technicians or in closely related jobs. We take beginning students with no prior knowledge of electronics and train them to be qualified, competent electronics technicians. This gives the graduating WCJC electronics technician the ability to find work in a field of his or her choosing.
The starting income with an AAS degree in Electronics from WCJC currently ranges from $30,000 to $55,000 per year. After just three to five years of employment, some of our graduates are earning over $75,000 per year. Electronics technology is a lifetime career choice.
