Christine Nevarez
Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development

Wharton County Junior College offers both semester-hour credit and noncredit programs, leading to certificates in career fields not requiring a degree for employment.  They are designed to provide students with specific occupational skills that enable them to enter the workforce in a short period of time.

The college is committed to promoting the quality of life and economic development of our service area. The Division of Workforce Development, Continuing Education, and Distance Learning is integral to this effort. A broad variety of noncredit offerings and grant-funded programs are offered to meet community needs as diverse as job training and skills enhancement.

WCJC noncredit offerings are designed to be responsive to community and business needs. A small sampling of topics offered through WCJC noncredit programming includes supervisory training, financial planning, customer service training, communication skills, industrial motor control, electronics, welding, foreign language training, and a broad variety of training in the latest computer software packages. Programs can be customized to meet the needs of businesses or public entities.  Additionally, the division offers one-year credit certificate programs in Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, Cosmetology,  and Cisco Networking.

The Workforce Development division is a focal point for the college's endeavors for community outreach and service. The college offers workforce training that is accessed through the Workforce Investment Act.
