Course
Summary
Cosmetology ( 37 semester credit hours )
The
certificate program in cosmetology prepares students by
developing positive attitudes as well as skills and
technical knowledge necessary for competency in the field of
cosmetology.
This
program allows students the opportunity to acquire the
individual skills necessary to complete the State
Cosmetology Board Examination.
The
student must have a 2.0 overall GPA to receive a
certificate.
Entrance
Requirements
1. Complete the
Nelson-Denny reading test.
The test is given by appointment at the Wharton
County Junior College Testing Center.
Call the Testing Center at (979) 532-6386 or (979)
532-6457 for test
dates and times.
Students that want to schedule an appointment to test the
the Sugar Land Campus need to call (281) 243-8434 for
testing dates and times. For students that want to test at
the Fort Bend Technical Center, please call (281) 239-1532
for testing schedules and registration procedures. Students
must have an application on file with WCJC prior to test
date at all locations.
2. Selection of students
accepted to the Cosmetology program is based on the ranking
of the Nelson-Denny Reading Test.
3.
Complete an application for admission.
4. Provide a high-school
transcript or copy of GED certificate and, if applicable, a
transcript from each college or accredited cosmetology
school attended.
5. Provide proof of
residency in the State of Texas for at least 12 months prior
to enrolling in the program.
Plan
of Instruction
The
program in cosmetology consists of 12 calendar months or
10-1/2 months. Students register each semester (fall, spring and summer).
The program is offered in Wharton. Inquiries concerning
admission and registration should be directed to the
Cosmetology Department in Wharton at (979) 532-6422.
Evening classes are also available.
