BJ THOMAS TAKES THE STAGE TO BENEFIT THE WHARTON COUNTY JUNIOR COLLEGE FOUNDATION

WHARTON, TEXAS – BJ Thomas returns to the Houston area, where he launched his musical career, headlining for The Wharton County Junior College Foundation gala on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007. Festivities begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception and silent auction at the Wharton Civic Center, 1924 North Fulton Street in Wharton. Dinner and a live auction follow before Thomas takes the stage at 8 p.m.

“BJ Thomas Live” benefits The Wharton County Junior College Foundation which funds student scholarships, faculty development, and academic programs. The Foundation recently funded the Horton Foote Theatre renovations to benefit students in the fine arts, public speaking and other academic programs.

With over 70 million records sold, Thomas’ vocal versatility is as apparent today as it was in 1967 when he recorded his first hit, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” The five-time Grammy winner and two-time Dove Award winner is the only artist to successfully move to the top of three music genres: pop, country and contemporary Christian.

Thomas enjoys his role as an entertainer saying, “I have the chance to lift the spirits of the audience and make them feel good, at least for the evening.”

While most people are familiar with the Lamar Consolidated High School graduate’s mega hit, “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” made famous by motion picture “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid,” they aren’t as familiar with his television work. Thomas has been the voice behind commercials for Coca-Cola, Pepsi and AT&T and he recorded “As Long As We Got Each Other,” the theme song for the ABC sitcom “Growing Pains.”

Throughout his career, Thomas has worked actively for various causes. His song, “Broken Toys,” written by Gloria Thomas and Nashville writers J.D. Martin and Gary Harrison, has been adopted by child abuse agencies throughout America.

Tickets for “BJ Thomas Live” are $75 each. Sponsor tables, with preferential seating for eight guests, are $1,500. Sponsoring organizations or individuals will receive a special keepsake gift in addition to sponsor recognition. To purchase sponsor tables or tickets, please call 979.532.6322 or 1.800.561.9252, ext. 6322.
