WCJC BOOSTER CLUB HONORS ATHLETES


The Wharton County Junior College Booster Club recently honored the college’s athletic teams at its 49th Annual Athletic Banquet. Pictured are the award recipients. The Wharton County Junior College Booster Club recently honored the college’s athletic teams at its 49th Annual Athletic Banquet. Pictured are the award recipients. Academic All-Conference 2011-2012 awards were presented to athletes who had at least a 3.25 grade point average, had been enrolled at the college for at least three semesters, and had taken at least 36 hours of course work. Academic All-Conference athletes include: Pictured left to right: Seth Stanford of Waller, Texas, Corey Hendrick of Rosenberg, Texas, Tara Jordan of Hardin, Texas, Frank Cloutier of Shefford, Quebec, Canada, and Kyle Cross of Pearland, Texas. The Wharton County Junior College Booster Club recently honored the college’s athletic teams at it’s 49th Annual Athletic Banquet. Special award recipients include:

Candice Dusek of East Bernard, Texas - Volleyball Most Valuable Player

Thomas “Trey” Benton of Rock Island, Texas - Rodeo Most Valuable Player

Matt Rhodes of Pearland, Texas - Baseball Most Valuable Player

Frank Cloutier of Shefford, Quebec, Canada -- (Baseball Team Member) - Johnnie Frankie

& Dr. Ty Pate Academic Award Recipient

Each year the WCJC Booster Club presents the best all-around athlete with the Johnnie Frankie Award in honor of the late Johnnie Frankie who coached several sports teams at Wharton County Junior College over many years. The 2011-2012 Johnnie Frankie Award was presented by Jenny Banker daughter of the late Coach Johnnie Frankie.

The Dr. Ty Pate Academic Award was established in memory of Pate. This award is presented to the student athlete with the highest grade point average. Pate attended WCJC and played on a basketball scholarship and received the Johnnie Frankie award for best athlete in 1970.
