Topic: "The Importance of Cultural Diversity in Municipal Government"

Houston City Council Member M. J. Khan spoke at Wharton County Junior College's recent President's Lecture Series event. Khan's topic was "The Importance of Cultural Diversity in Municipal Government." As part of his lecture Khan spoke about the importance of diverse ideas in government and the importance of individual participation in local and national elections.

A native of Pakistan, Khan acknowledged the democracy of the United States and the opportunities available to anyone who works hard to achieve their goals.

Speaker: Captain Paul J. Matthews

Topic: "The African American Military Experience"

Captain Paul Matthews addressed a captive audience at Wharton County Junior College's recent President's Lecture Series event.

Matthew's lecture "The African-American Military Experience," gave an overview of the history of African-American military service dating as far back as the founding of the country. He also spoke about the National Solders Museum in Houston and the many treasures housed there. Matthew's is the founder and director of the museum.
