Meet
the Visual &
Performing Arts
The
area of Art, Drama, and Music are delighted to provide cultural
enrichment and entertainment for the towns we serve, as we give students the
opportunity to practice and improve their skills as artists.
All instructors in the fine arts area are first-rate artists and
public speakers themselves, and they practice what they teach.
The
Art Gallery in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building features revolving displays
of work by faculty, community, and student artists.
Sculpture, ceramics, collages, paintings and drawings are on offer, and
occasionally there is even an outdoor installation. There is also a constantly changing art exhibit in the
hallway near the art studio.
Drama and Speech are an integral part of Fine Arts at WCJC. Phil Hoke, our drama director, presents three major productions every year, and has introduced such variety as William Shakespeare, Thornton Wilder, and Arthur Miller to our audiences. He also directs one act and original plays, and has taken the Greenroom Players to UIL contests each of the last two years. Our Speech
Area hosts a “Speak Out!” program every semester on two campuses, an opportunity for the best of our student speakers to perform before a real audience, and with scholarships as their reward.
The
Music Area offers, as always, a rich variety of treats for all musical
tastes: there is choral music, both
sacred and secular; instrumental music; classical, and popular music to delight
and inspire audiences.
For
the convenience of our patrons, the Fine Arts Series is a full-season package
that includes all the events except the Choral Dinner.
Call (979) 532-6300 or (800) 561-WCJC, extension 6300 for more
information. The Fine Arts faculty
and students look forward to seeing you at the Fine Arts season events.
