F.J.L. Blasingame Science Building

The F.J.L. Blasingame Science Building was one of the major buildings constructed in the campus expansion during the 1960’s. The first phase was built in 1960, the addition in 1967. The facility supports the current lecture and laboratory program requirements for chemistry, biology, and physics.

The failed roof system was replaced in 1993. The second floor of the addition was rebricked in 1986. This effort was partially successful at reducing water infiltration of the building. Significant water infiltration persists at the first floor skylights detail. The brick on the first floor of the addition is showing signs of major deterioration and is a priority concern. The wall flashing at the skylights were replaced in the summer of 2002 with the hopes of completely eliminating water infiltration.

The major components of the mechanical systems have received needed attention. A new chiller was installed in 1996 along with new pneumatic controls for the air condition and hot/chilled water system.

New exhaust fans for the previously mentioned lab ventilation concerns were installed in 1994.  An elevator was also added in 1994.

The majority of the classrooms have been repainted in 2001 & 2002. Most of the ceiling tile has been replaced within the last few years and new lighting was installed in room 104 & 108. Room 103 has been updated to accommodate a smart board and data projector and various classrooms have new furniture.
