WCJC Display Highlights Career Opportunities of a Process Technology Degree

A new display at Wharton County Junior College’s Bay City campus showcases LyondellBasell employees and highlights the career opportunities associated with a Process Technology degree. BAY CITY, TEXAS  A new display at the Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) Bay City campus showcases LyondellBasell employees and highlights the career opportunities associated with a Process Technology degree. The display at the Bay City campus includes photos of employees, their graduation year, and current career information. Approximately 40 LyondellBasell employees at the Matagorda Complex graduated from the college with a Process Technology degree since 2000. 

“LyondellBasell maintains a strong relationship and commitment to Wharton County Junior College, and this display serves as a motivator and confirmation of the opportunities a WCJC Process Technology Degree provides,” said Ron Price, LyondellBasell’s Matagorda Complex operations manager. 

The employees pictured on the display joined LyondellBasell shortly after their graduation as operators. Currently, they serve in various roles, which include first-line supervisors, production maintenance coordinators, and operations day technicians. Many of these employees also serve on the plant’s emergency response team. 

"We are grateful for this gift (display), as it signifies the friendship and partnership WCJC and LyondellBasell have shared for many years, along with the powerful connections this relationship holds for our students and alumni," said WCJC President Betty McCrohan.

The display also showcases scholarships for women in the   Process Technology program, internship opportunities, plant visits, site tours, interview training, and ongoing career development LyondellBasell offers students. 

Price states, “One of the core principles of LyondellBasell is to shape the future. Our relationship with WCJC and the employee pipeline they provide continue our focus at the LyondellBasell Matagorda plant to support the local community.”
