WHARTON, TEXAS – The Wharton County Junior College Music Department will join forces for its final concert of the spring 2025 season. “The Joint is Jumpin’” will feature the combined talents of the WCJC Choir and WCJC Jazz Band.

The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The show is free and open to the public.

WCJC Choir Director Dr. Karl Paoletti will direct both groups for the concert, while WCJC Band Director Joe Waldrop will share his talents on the saxophone. Waldrop will retire this summer after 36 years of directing.

Musical selections will include hits from the Big Band Era, a period that hit its peak around the 1940s and featured large ensembles comprised of four sections: trombones, trumpets, saxophones and rhythm.

“It’s going to be a really fun concert,” Paoletti said.
