WCJC ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC AWARDS

Wharton County Junior College Pioneers baseball players celebrate a homerun this past season. A number of WCJC's baseball and volleyball players were recently recognized for academic excellence.

 

WHARTON, TEXAS – Wharton County Junior College athletes were recently recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association for academic excellence.

To qualify for the NJCAA awards, students had to complete two full-time semesters. First Team awards were issued to student athletes with a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). Second Team was for students earning a 3.8 to 3.99 GPA. And Third Team awards were issued to students with a 3.6 to 3.79 GPA.

In addition, Region XIV all-academic awards were issued to student athletes with a GPA of 3.25 or better. Athletes had to complete at least 24 hours of college courses leading to a degree.

WCJC athletes earning awards included:

  • Carson Sydnor of Montgomery (baseball) — NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Harrison Wall of Mount Pleasant (baseball) — NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Kieryn Adams of Schulenburg (volleyball) — NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Jackson Kemper of Cypress (baseball) — NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Aidan Lopez of Eagle Pass (baseball) — NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Elaiza Martinez of Rio Grande City (volleyball) — NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Kayley Robertson of Chilton (volleyball) — NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Lane Sparks of Brenham (baseball) — NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Jonathan Anders of Rosenberg (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Julian Garcia of Conroe (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Aidan Goude of Cypress (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Austin Hardy of Spring (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Gabriella Juarez of Cypress (volleyball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Blair Kram of Sealy (volleyball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Braylon Mitchell of Houston (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Austin Rawls of League City (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Andrew Wenske of Shiner (baseball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team
  • Lauren Wood of Katy (volleyball) — Region XIV All-Academic Team

In addition to the individual honors, WCJC’s baseball and volleyball teams each received the NJCAA Academic Team-of-the-Year Award. The WCJC Pioneers baseball team had an overall team GPA of 3.22, while the WCJC Pioneers volleyball team had a GPA of 3.09.
