BAY CITY, TEXAS — Wharton County Junior College is teaming up with Kainos Academy to provide educational opportunities for young adults.
This fall, Kainos Academy is utilizing WCJC’s new Construction Trades Training Facility at the Bay City campus to provide skills-based coursework for a select group of eight students. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing certification programs to young adults who might otherwise be unable to continue their education. Qualified students are provided with courses tuition-free.
“Our mission is to equip young adults from underserved communities with the skills, mindset and resources to build successful careers,” said Kainos Academy’s Ronda Espinosa, who oversees the course instruction. “We not only provide technical training but also focus on character development, mentorship and job placement.”
Kainos students will complete a six-week foundation course at the Bay City facility before enrolling in one of WCJC’s certification programs in fields such as healthcare, skilled trades and technology. The overall goal is to provide students with a marketable skill.
“This partnership exists to break cycles of limitation and open doors of opportunity,” Espinosa said. “By combining Kainos Academy’s wraparound support with WCJC’s excellent training programs, we can empower young adults to step confidently into stable, meaningful careers.”
Since the academy is funded through private donations and community partners, WCJC incurs no cost for the partnership. Although this is the first time for WCJC to partner with Kainos Academy, plans are to continue to do so in the future.
“We’re hoping for it to be a recurring class after this fall,” noted WCJC Continuing Education Corporate Coordinator John Woolsey.
“This is not a one-time initiative,” Espinosa added. “It’s a long-term investment in people and in our community. We see WCJC as a cornerstone partner in our mission to transform lives, and we’re excited to build on this foundation for years to come.”
