WHARTON, TEXAS — Two members of the Wharton County Junior College Pioneers baseball team have been recognized for their outstanding achievement. Harrison Wall of Mount Pleasant is the 2026 Dr. Ty Pate Memorial Academic Athletic Award winner and Connor Priddy of Lago Vista is the 2026 Johnnie Frankie Award winner.
This is the second year in a row for Wall to receive the Dr. Ty Pate award. Established in honor of the late WCJC administrator and former athlete, the award recognizes athletes with notable academic achievement. WCJC Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Trey Porras said Wall is a force to be reckoned with on the mound and in the classroom. Wall led the Pioneers in innings pitched with 66.2, strikeouts with 66 and posted a 4.70 ERA.
“Harrison is the model of consistency, both on and off the field,” Porras said. “It is rare at the junior college level that a young man has both the academic make-up and baseball skill set of Harrison. I have thoroughly enjoyed having him in the program the last two years.”
Priddy, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, won this year’s Johnnie Frankie Award, which honors athletes who exhibit exceptional abilities and character. This season, Priddy posted an 8-2 record with 55 strikeouts across 63 innings pitched.
“His performance not only gave the team a chance to win every time he stepped on the mound but also provided stability and confidence for the entire pitching rotation,” Porras said. “He has established himself as both a dominant presence on the mound and a respected leader in the clubhouse.”
Priddy will continue his baseball career at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. Wall will continue his baseball career at Baylor University in Waco.
Wall also received post-season honors for the Pioneers, named to the Region XIV South All-Conference 1st Team, along with teammate Dakota Howard of Van Alstyne. Pioneers Trevor Ainsworth of Pearland, Zach Mann of League City, Sam Lee of Montgomery, Jaxon Lanclos of Houston, Gage Dorris of Hunstville and Kolin Adams of Schererville, Ind., were named to the Region XIV South All Conference 2nd Team.
