WHARTON, TEXAS — There’s sure to be a few ghosts and goblins running down the streets of downtown Wharton this Halloween as the Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizens Program will host its annual 5K Stride and Stroll on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Riverfront Park. All proceeds from the event benefit the program.
“The 5K Stride and Stroll is our largest fundraiser of the year,” said WCJC’s Director of the Senior Citizens Program Traci Myers. “Proceeds from the event help us continue to provide services to the area’s senior citizens.”
WCJC’s Senior Citizens Program provides meals, educational presentations, activities and transportation for qualified seniors in Wharton and Colorado counties. The program also operates “Meals on Wheels” services to homebound seniors within the service area.
This year’s 5K Stride and Stroll race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park’s Central Pavilion, 222 East Elm St. Fees are $40 for adults, $30 for children (12 years and under) and $175 for teams of up to five participants.
