Wharton County Junior College nursing students participate in a training exercise at the Wharton campus. The college will launch a new Continuing Education Patient Care Technician program later this spring, providing 30 qualified students with full scholarships.
WHARTON, TEXAS – Wharton County Junior College will launch a new Continuing Education Patient Care Technician (PCT) program this spring to equip students with the skills and certifications needed to excel in one of the fastest-growing fields in the medical industry. The program will provide 30 students with full scholarships, ensuring access to this exciting opportunity for qualified individuals.
The comprehensive program will prepare students for immediate entry into the healthcare workforce by offering training that leads to four key certifications, including: Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT/A), Certified EKG Technician (CET), Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
“We are thrilled to introduce the Patient Care Technician program as part of our commitment to providing accessible, in demand career-focused education,” said WCJC Continuing Education Corporate Coordinator Toni Smith. “This program not only opens doors to meaningful employment opportunities for our students but also addresses the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in our community.”
The training program is made possible through strategic partnerships with leading medical facilities in Colorado, El Campo, Fort Bend, Jackson and Matagorda counties. These collaborations offer students valuable clinical and practicum training opportunities and direct connections to industry leaders.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statics, the average salary for a Nurse Assistant is more than $38,000 per year or $18 an hour. The PCT program is designed to be completed in six months, with graduates prepared to take all licensure examinations.
Classes begin as early as March 1. For more information, contact Toni Smith at Smithan@wcjc.edu or visit the Continuing Education Healthcare page on the college website.
