You have four attempts to pass the exam in a year's time. Your approval period must be active, and you must still have attempts available, in order to schedule a test.

Examinees must complete their certification application with TCFP before scheduling their exam.  On test day, examinees will need their TCFP Exam Eligibility form which they can access on their FIDO account after TCFP application completion.

Examinees must register their account in the SFFMA PORTAL and schedule the desired exam with SFFMA once eligible.  Once SFFMA has approved your exam, contact the WCJC Testing Center you wish to test at in order to schedule your appointment.  WCJC Testing Center must receive confirmation and testing information from SFFMA before your exam can be delivered.

You must make an appointment to test by calling or emailing the Testing Center of your choice. Contact the Testing Staff at the appropriate center to schedule an appointment:

To make an appointment, you must provide the following information:

Test of Essential Academic Skills

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is an academic assessment exam for students who are applying to certain nursing programs.

Students applying for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN) or the Licensed Vocational Nursing Program (LVN) are required to take the TEAS. The TEAS is a multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English Language usage. Each of the four sections is timed for a total of 209 minutes.

Test results are available immediately upon completion of the assessment and are available to the student through their ATI student account. WCJC applicants will attach a copy of their score report to their application. WCJC Testing staff will not send score reports to the WCJC Nursing department or to any other institution of higher education.

The test has four sections:

  • Reading (45 items, 55 minutes): Includes questions regarding paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions
  • Math (38 items, 57 minutes): Includes questions regarding whole numbers, metric conversions, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion. Hand-held calculators are NOT ALLOWED, but an on-screen pop-up calculator is embedded within the test.
  • Science (50 items, 60 minutes): Includes questions regarding science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.
  • English Language Usage (37 items, 37 minutes): Includes questions regarding punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.

Students are responsible for checking with the school and nursing program to which they are applying for the policy regarding waiting periods, testing limitations, and score requirements.

If you're taking the TEAS at WCJC but plan to attend another school, you should set your primary school in your ATI account to WCJC while you are taking the TEAS exam at WCJC. When you've completed TEAS testing, you can change your primary school back to the institution that you are planning to attend.

Test accommodations are processed through WCJC.  Students who qualify for ADA accommodations must submit the appropriate paperwork through the WCJC Disability Services Office several weeks before their TEAS testing appointment for processing and approval. After WCJC Disability Services Office has approved your accommodations, please contact the WCJC Testing Center where your TEAS exam is schedule to set up your accommodations for the exam.

Registration and payment for the TEAS are done online through ATI. You'll need to create an ATI account. Through this account, you can register and pay for the exam, see your results, and find study aids. WCJC Testing staff cannot register students over the phone, through e-mail, or in person. Read detailed instructions for registering for the TEAS. The TEAS test fee is $107 to be paid online to ATI.

Students can take part of the TEAS exam if their nursing program allows them to just retake sections, but students must register for the complete TEAS exam. There is no way to register for only part of the TEAS exam. Students taking the TEAS exam for the first time must take the full exam.

The TEAS is a crucial part of the nursing application. Therefore, testers should prepare thoroughly for the exam. Applicants are encouraged to use a combination of study guides and online resources to prepare. The ATI site offers a study guide that many testers find helpful. In addition to the materials provided by ATI, here are additional sites that offer TEAS study assistance:

Testing starts precisely at 8:30am. You must be checked in before testing begins. You are encouraged to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to allow time for traffic and parking. Students who arrive late will not be able to test.

Parking at the Sugar Land campus is by permit only. To avoid a citation, visitors must park within the gated area of Lot 4 in the Fort Bend Library parking lot. An hourly rate applies. WCJC is not responsible for citations.

On test day, students should bring as few personal items as possible. All personal items, including but not limited to cell phones, fitness bands, purses, digital or smart watches, keys, and water bottles, will be stored and unavailable to the tester during the test. Cell phones must be powered off when stored. Calculators and all electronic devices are not allowed in the testing room.

What to Bring:

  • Testers must present a non-expired, government-issued photo ID prior to testing. Students who do not have an ID or whose ID does not match the name on the ATI TEAS roster will not be able to test.
  • Your ATI username and password. Students who do not know their ATI username and/or password will not be able to test.
